To the Store

This poem was written by my beautiful mother, and takes me back to growing up in Suburbia and riding in an old station wagon with a rear facing passenger seat in the back. Spoiler alert, I was the thumb sucker~

To the Store

I promise I won’t ask for nothing.

Can I just have some gum?

Why do I have to go with you?

Tell her to stop sucking her thumb!

Get into the car my children

we’re going for a ride

we are going to the store

to buy a box of Tide.

I get to sit by the window!

Do I really have to come?

Maybe we can have some candy.

Mom, I can still see her sucking her thumb!

Get into the car my children

We’re going to have some fun

we are going to the store

to buy mommy a bottle of rum.

Tell him to stop pushing!

You think I’m still a baby

Maybe we’ll get something to eat?

Mom, here comes the Avon lady!

Get out of the car you stinkers

you think you’re so darn smart

we’re not going anywhere

the #@$%ing car won’t start!
